Levels
From beginners to pros
The levels of the course participants are defined by the results of an analysis of the language requirements, the interview and a written test. The different fluency levels comply with the European Language Portfolio (ELP). The only difference being that ElaN has added an extra level - ‘level 0’ for absolute beginners who have absolutely no knowledge at all of the language in question. This provides not just a more complete picture, but also a much more realistic one.
- ElaN level 0 - Absolute Beginner
- ETP level 1 A1 - Breakthrough
- ETP level 2 A2 - Waystage
- ETP level 3 B1 - Threshold
- ETP level 4 B2 - Vantage
- ETP level 5 C1 - Effective Proficiency
- ETP level 6 C2 - Mastery
What is ETP?
In today’s increasingly globalised world companies need something that will help them obtain a clear and rapid evaluation and comparison of their employees’ language skills. This is why the Council of Europe created the European Language Portfolio (ELP). The aim of this tool is to optimise the consistency of language training in European countries and make it more transparent. It seeks to ensure clarity in the way people learn languages and the levels they achieve. In addition to a European scale of language skills (description of the six levels) the European Language Portfolio is the means par excellence of achieving this goal.
